Packing Tips

The task of rounding up and packing away all of your earthly possessions is downright daunting. But you can save yourself time, effort and especially money with just a lit
tle bit of advance planning and organizing.
  • Sort out those items you've "been meaning to get rid of" and do it!

  • Dispose of any hazardous items such as cleaners, paint, solvents, ammunition, or aerosol cans in an appropriate manner - they can not be moved!

  • Other items that should not go in the van are any type of personal valuable, i.e. cash, jewelry, important papers or furs. These things should go with you.

  • Try to pack certain things together, for example, kitchen or bathroom items. If you know the layout of your new home, you can have the cartons labeled according to the room in which they'll be placed at destination.

A Starck Van Lines professional packer is trained to give you expert advice in organizing your packing effort. In addition, Starck can provide you with specific materials to further simplify the job. Some of these items include:

  • Book Cartons (1.5. cu. ft.) - These are small, easy to handle but designed for heavier items such as books and tapes or cd's. We recommends that any old or valuable books should be individually wrapped, and don't pack the box so heavily that you can't pick it up!

  • Dishpacks - These sturdy cartons are meant to provide maximum protection for fragile dishware and glassware, figurines or sculptures. They can be reinforced with additional inserts to protect breakables like stemware as well. We recommends that all individual pieces be wrapped in unprinted paper, and properly secured with additional padding. The dishpack should be labeled "Fragile: This End Up."

  • Wardrobe - The quintessential portable closet! Clothes can be stored on hangers, minimizing wrinkles and staying clean.

  • Mirror/Picture Cartons - An exact fit to ensure a safe trip for mirrors, pictures or glass table tops. Heavy, corrugated braces reinforce corners and the cartons telescope for snug protection.

  • Mattress Cartons - Available in crib sizes all the way up through to King, the best way to protect your mattress from snags, dirt, tears and structural damage.

Starck strongly advises you to use professional materials if you choose to do some of your own packing. On the other hand, when you use a Bekins professional to take care of your packing, your time is free to worry about other things, or better yet - to just relax!
